Do you suffer from itchy irritated eyes, running nose, or a scratchy throat? Tennessee’s environmental allergy season lasts from February to late November. Due to the location and abundant tree life, Nashville ranks among one of the worst cities in the country for seasonal allergies.

Immune Response

Seasonal allergy symptoms arise when the body interacts with pollen from trees, grass, weeds, or flowers. The body’s immune system responds by eliciting different symptoms to rid the body of the increase in allergens. Although these allergens are essentially harmless to the body, the immune system recognizes them as foreign and fights back by increasing the secretions of the mucosal membranes. This is what causes the watery or itchy eyes, runny nose, and throat irritation. These symptoms can be frustrating and tough to get rid of!

Chiropractic Adjustments

The good news is, there is a lot that chiropractic care can offer to keep these symptoms under control! Because allergies are an immune system response, chiropractic adjustments can help ensure that the body’s nervous system is communicating properly and effectively. Chiropractic adjustments target the vertebrae of the spine. These vertebrae house and protect the spinal cord and exiting nerves. Proper alignment of the spine can lead to clearer paths of communication between the brain and the body and in turn, help regulate your immune system responses.

Sinus Release

At inTune Chiropractic we offer sinus releases. There are eight total sinuses in the head: two on the forehead (frontal sinuses), two by the nose (ethmoid sinuses), two under the cheeks (maxillary sinuses), and two in front of the ears (sphenoid sinuses). Our doctors are trained to apply pressure to these different sinus cavities to help release congestion. We also have a special tool that can apply a light force to these sinus cavities to help break up stagnant mucous.

Eustachian Tube

When you come to the office, be sure to ask Dr. Al and Dr. Chanel about a eustachian tube adjustment! The eustachian tube is in your ear. A gentle release can help drain any fluid that has settled in the ear canal. It is important to help the body get rid of any lingering fluid in order to avoid congestion and keep sinus infections at bay.
