Nervous About Your First Chiropractic Visit? Here’s What Actually Happens

September 18, 2026

Not knowing what to expect is usually the real source of anxiety about a first chiropractic visit, not the treatment itself. Once you know exactly what happens, check-in to walking out, most of that nervousness disappears. Here’s the honest, no-surprises walkthrough.

A lot of people put off their first chiropractic visit for months, sometimes years, longer than they’d ever admit, and it’s rarely because they doubt it would help. It’s because the unknown is uncomfortable: will it hurt, will they crack something you didn’t want cracked, what if the doctor finds something worse than what you came in for. None of those fears are irrational, they’re just based on not knowing what actually happens in the room. And that gap between “I probably need this” and “I know exactly what I’m walking into” is usually the entire reason people delay care they already know they need.

Before Your First Chiropractic Visit

Fill out your intake forms online ahead of time. It takes about five to ten minutes and means you’re not doing paperwork in the waiting room. Wear something comfortable you can move in, workout clothes are fine, and bring a photo ID and a list of any current medications. Since inTune is a cash-pay practice, you won’t need insurance information, just an HSA or FSA card if you’re planning to use one.

Check-In and Your Health History

When you arrive, you’ll talk through what’s actually going on, not just where it hurts, but how it started, what makes it better or worse, and what you’re hoping to get back to. This isn’t a five-minute formality. It’s the foundation the rest of your visit is built on.

The Hands-On Assessment

Next is a hands-on orthopedic, motor, reflex, and sensory assessment to find out what’s actually driving the problem. If needed, X-rays are taken on-site to get a clearer picture. This is the step that separates a real diagnosis from a guess, and it’s why the plan you leave with is built around you specifically, not a generic protocol.

Your First Treatment, and What It Actually Feels Like

Based on what the assessment finds, your first treatment might be an adjustment, manual therapy, or Piezowave2 therapy, whatever actually fits what’s going on. Most people feel relief, not pain. You might hear a pop during an adjustment. That’s just gas releasing from the joint, not anything to be concerned about. If for some reason inTune isn’t the right fit for what’s going on, you’ll get an honest referral instead of treatment that doesn’t make sense for your case.

Leaving With an Actual Plan

Before you leave, you’ll know what’s next: how many visits to expect, roughly how long your plan should take, and why each part of it is there. First visits run about 30 to 45 minutes total, and you’re encouraged to ask questions the whole way through. Dr. Al and Dr. Chanel work alongside you toward your goals, not just at you.
